Winter @ Rock Island Point

Our Oquossoc neighbors, the Fees, are doing an extensive addition to their house. They visited in February to check on the progress of construction and took this photograph of our driveway.

According to the NOAA maps, there is still 35-40 inches of snow on the ground in the region--far too much snow to make the trek down the driveway!

Green

After talking about it for years, we finally painted the "fireplace wall." We like it! Makes Eric's painting really stand out, doesn't it? Same for the Chinese lanterns.

Max is 3!

Max had his birthday party this weekend. We had an introduction to gymnastics class where all the kids got to stretch and run around and do summersaults and jump on the trampoline and tumble and have a good time. Then they ate cake and proceeded to run around some more. Max had a really great time with all of his friends and just LOVES jumping on the trampoline.

Sledding

Not sure if this was Max's first-ever sledding experience, but he got the hang of it very quickly.

Snowman and Two Snow Angels

A beautiful Saturday afternoon in NH, especially with another 6" of nice, packable snow!

Molasses Cookies

Max has been visiting us for a few days. One of the things we did was to make cookies--molasses cookies! The recipe was one of My-Mine's favorites (My-Mine would be Max's great-great-grandmother on the Bowles side of the family). Yummm.

Fidel

Sunday, 24 February 2007 -
Fidel Castro (finally!) steps down. Not sure Raul will be much of an improvement, but....In honor of the occasion, I enjoyed the last of the Cuban cigars that Davey had brought from one of his trips to Canada.

At my age, I even have vague memories of watching Fidel being interviewed during his days as a "freedom fighter." Since we didn't have a television at the time, we were probably at My-Mine and Grandad's (my Bowles grandparents) watching the nightly news with John Cameron Swayze.

Thinking of John Cameron Swayze reminds me of the ads for Timex ("...takes a licking and keeps on ticking") and his signature sign-off, "That's the story, folks--glad we could get together."
